Pandora Utility Suit Will "AMP" Up the Excitement at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Beginning April 22, guests can interact with towering mechanical suit inspired by Avatar film.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., April 7, 2018 - A 4.2-ton, towering mechanical suit is sure to stop guests in their tracks when it debuts at Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney's Animal Kingdom on April 22. The new Pandora Utility Suit is inspired by the iconic Amplified Mobility Platform (AMP) suits of power armor from the epic film AVATAR.

Perched ten feet high, a human pilot straps into the cockpit of this exo-carrier and controls its powerful, yet agile movements. The giant walking suit was designed with articulated hands and a shoulder span of more than five feet. It also bears claw marks and battle scars from a Thanator – an alpha predator on Pandora.

Conquering Everest at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Reprint from original publishing on November 26, 2014
Expedition Everest celebrated its grand opening on April 7, 2006. Located in the Asia portion of Animal Kingdom, Everest is the tallest of Walt Disney World's "mountain" attractions - just under 200 ft tall at its peak. And that's just the start of the impressive stats behind this behemoth. Four brake zones, two lifts, two track switches, and an 80 ft drop round out the jaw-dropping aspects of Expedition Everest. Brilliantly themed, this epic coaster reaches speeds of 50 mph, in both forward and reverse motion. The winding steel track measures over 4,000 feet in length, providing three minutes of runaway thrills. Each "train" carries 34 passengers in six ride cars through the craggy slopes of a wild Himalayan expedition - if you can escape the clutches of the legendary Yeti, that is!

Disney's Animal Kingdom - Beyond the Rides and Animals

The one reliable tip that almost every Animal Kingdom receives - Do the safari first!! Okay, the safari is done... now what? Naturally, there are other rides, but I have to confess to a HUGE pet peeve here. The Disney minds have gone to great lengths to consider every little detail of the parks. I know I'm being petty and snide, but it just agitates me to realize how many people rush through line after line, ride after ride, bickering - shoving - RUSHING! Take time to sit on a bench and notice a garbage can! Sounds ridiculous, but I'm serious! Hey - in the Magic Kingdom, that garbage can just may walk, talk and ask you for a hug! Don't look at me like that! I have the pics to prove my tale! One such feature at Animal Kingdom that busy bees over fly right by is DiVine. I'll let umm, her... "speak" for herself...

The Wild Life at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Timon awaits to greet visitors on a mini "Pride Rock"

I remember when Animal Kingdom (AK) first opened. The introductory ad campaign used a cultural melding to stress the park's uniqueness: "Disney's Animal Kingdom, it's alot of things but remember, it's Nahtazu" (Get it?? NOT A ZOO? LOL Clever to us feeble minded simple folk!). While it's certainly not suitable to assign AK the simplified label of "zoo", it's also not altogether unique or ground-breaking. AK joins the ranks of the modern wildlife amusement parks. Think Busch Gardens, Sea World,... you get the idea. Frankly, being an annual passholder and frequent visitor to all of the previously referenced parks, I must admit that AK is not particularly remarkable amongst the trio. However, like all things Disney - it's just different.
