TENNESSEE - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO TWO OF DOLLYWOOD’S FAMOUS LEADING LADIES

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (Monday, October 22, 2018) — Two of Dollywood’s most famous leading ladies have celebrated milestone birthdays this year. Katie celebrates her 75th, while “Cindy” enjoys the big 8-0 this season. Both ladies have the opportunity to entertain thousands of Dollywood guests each season, and their performances turn heads and garner waves of admiration wherever the track takes them.

They both admirably served in the U.S. Army during World War II, but now enjoy their retirement years at the world’s friendliest theme park. Their “warm” demeanors certainly are welcomed here.

The two Baldwin coal-fired steam trains—Klondike Katie, No. 192, and Cinderella, No. 70—were built in 1943 and 1938 respectively by Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia. Both trains served in Alaska during World War II, transporting troops and lumber on various missions across what would become the 49th U.S. state. Both engines were still in use when they were purchased from the Army. The two locomotives now work together to serve guests as The Dollywood Express, one of the park’s signature attractions.

TOP FESTIVALS IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY

Events for the entire family are celebrated in 2019

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. -- What do frog legs, pelicans, and craft brews all have in common? They are all festivals held throughout the year that connect locals and travelers alike to art, food, Mother Nature and yes, even beer. Festivals bring about a sense of community, where thousands of like-minded strangers become friends sharing in the celebration while introducing visitors to the unique personalities of Vero Beach, Fellsmere and Sebastian.

Here a few upcoming festivals to add to your calendar of events:

  • Sebastian Clambake – In 2002, a nonprofit corporation started a November festival that deeply affected the local community and has continued to make waves to this day. Past events raised more than $600,000, which were then distributed to local nonprofit organizations. The organizers believe that exceptional eats, soul-stirring music, historical re-enactments and plenty of family fun make this festival a wonderful way to give back to the community. The clambake takes place from November 2-4, 2018 and around the same time in 2019.
  • If frog legs and gator tails are your thing, then you’re in good company! Every January for the past 25 years, the Fellsmere Frog Leg Festival puts Fellsmere, Florida, on the map. This festival has become a huge draw for visitors who want to experience homespun, Florida-fun, and of course locals who want to join their family and friends enjoying the best the sunshine state offers. Hop to the festival from January 17-20, 2019.

REVIEW: UNDead in the Water - Tampa Bay

Thanks to the resurgence in mainstream popularity of zombie culture, the apocalypse is a topic we're able to ponder from a sort of "fantasy" slant. After all, the rise of the undead for a human harvest couldn't really become a realistic event... right?

But, what if...

Work with me here. Even if you haven't considered your survival plan in the case of a zombie apocalypse, haven't we all had a moment to wonder where we would go and what we would do if an apocalyptic event were to unfold? Let's face it - we Floridians have emergency plans embedded in our brains thanks to hurricanes anyway, so maybe it's not a huge leap to throw the potential for flesh-eating monsters into the mix - just in case. (Right about now, you are raising an eyebrow at me, but let me profess - I actually took a course through UC Irvine: 'Survival Lessons From The Walking Dead'... it's a thing, people! But I digress...)

It just so happens - in the case of a zombie apocalypse, those lucky folks near Tampa's Channelside District have a pretty nifty escape option... the American Victory Ship!
