TENNESSEE - DOLLYWOOD ADDS OPERATING DAYS TO SMOKY MOUNTAIN CHRISTMAS

Park now open Jan. 2-3, 2018

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (Thursday, November 16, 2017) — After receiving much feedback from guests, Dollywood officials have extended the park’s award-winning Smoky Mountain Christmas festival two days, with Tuesday, Jan. 2 and Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, now serving as operating days.

Due to a number of regional school systems remaining closed for Christmas break several days after the new year begins, many guests have asked for the park to remain open longer to allow families with students more opportunity to visit Dollywood during the hectic holiday season. Park hours are 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. on both of the additional days.

The move comes after a strong fall which included the debut of Great Pumpkin LumiNights and the kickoff of Smoky Mountain Christmas presented by Humana. The 2017 operating season, dubbed “The Year of the Family” by Dolly Parton, has already provided families with a number of exciting festivals, performing groups and two new attractions—Drop Line, a 230-ft. tall free fall experience, and Whistle Punk Chaser, a junior coaster designed for Dollywood’s younger visitors. The additional operating days provide families more time to enjoy Smoky Mountain memory making.

TENNESSEE - STAR-STUDDED SMOKY MOUNTAINS RISE TELETHON SET TO AIR TONIGHT

Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association all pledge large donations prior to start of telethon

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016) — Nearly $500,000 of donations already have been committed before the Smoky Mountains Rise: A Benefit for the My People Fund telethon has even started. The telethon, which will be broadcast on GAC, AXS-TV, RFD and The Heartland Network tonight at 8 p.m. (EST), already has received pledges from Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney and both the Academy of Country Music (ACM) and the Country Music Association (CMA).

The ACM donated $100,000 to the fund, with Taylor Swift matching the amount, while the CMA donated $125,000 accompanied by a matching donation by East Tennessean Kenny Chesney. Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and First Lady Crissy Haslam will make a special appearance during the telethon, which has grown to include a star-studded lineup of performers and phone bank operators. All of the celebrities are donating their time to help the effort.

There is still so much need to support the people of the Smoky Mountains, but thanks to Taylor and Kenny and both the ACM and CMA for gettin’ us started with such huge donations.”

Smith, and TuneIn Country Roads’ Kelly Sutton will share hosting duties throughout the three-hour broadcast.

Celebrities donating their time to answer phones include: Paula Deen and her sons Bobby and Jamie, Chrisley Knows Best cast members Todd, Julie and Savannah, Moonshiners’ cast members Mark and Digger, Nashville’s Charles Esten, cast members of Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors, country hit-makers Chris & Mogane Stapleton, Terri Clark, Mark Wills, Lee Greenwood, Larry Gatlin, TG Sheppard, John Conlee, Ronnie McDowell, Kristian Bush, Tim Rushlow, T. USAToday.com and USA Today National Networks will live stream the telethon on their affiliate newspaper websites, including all Tennessee newspaper sites Tennessean.com, Knoxnews.com, commercialappeal.comjacksonsun.comtheleafchronicle.comdnj.com, and others.

The My People Fund will provide $1000 each month to Sevier County families whose homes are uninhabitable or were completely destroyed in the recent Smoky Mountain wildfires.
