Tasty Meals with a Side of Sentimentality: Woody's Lunch Box Puts a Modern Spin on Timeless Menu Favorites for Guests of Toy Story Land

New land opens at Walt Disney World June 30

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., April 9, 2018 - In the new Toy Story Land that opens June 30 at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, the fun extends to food, and meal time comes with a heavy helping of nostalgia. Woody's Lunch Box will serve up classic on-the-go menu items with a creative twist.

Located in Disney's Hollywood Studios, the new 11-acre land brings to life all the magic and fun of the hit Disney●Pixar animated "Toy Story" franchise.  In this land – inspired by Andy's backyard from the films – guests "shrink" to the size of a toy and set off for thrills and laughs on three signature attractions.

Star Wars Weekends at Walt Disney World

**This article originally appeared on the Yahoo Voices content network on May 8, 2014. It has been republished here due to the shutdown of Voices and YCN.**

It's almost that time again. Time for wannabe Jedis to face off with Stormtroopers before riding on a roller coaster with Aerosmith, or watching a six foot tall stick bug dance down the street. This may sound unusual to some, but it's just another tradition here in Orlando! Star Wars Weekends at Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios dates back to 1997, but officially became an annual event as of 2003. This may very well be the only time you'll see throngs of people combining both Jedi robes and Mickey ears into their wardrobe, and looking perfectly normal - even cool. This year's galactic celebration kicks off May 16, and runs every Friday through Sunday until June 15. There's something a bit different to each year's event, and if you know what to expect, it can be an out of this world experience!

Quick Observations From Star Wars Weekends 2014

Star Wars Weekends officially kicked off at Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios this weekend. Considering that my son and I are local Annual Passholders and consider our Star Wars Weekends visits to be a mandatory matter, we have learned a few things. One of our "rules" (so to speak) is that we don't go during the first weekend. Though each weekend draws large crowds, the first tend to bring in the biggest wave... those that simply couldn't wait... after all, there's something appealing about being there when it begins. I get it, but I don't particularly need that. After looking over this year's event schedule, we decided that we'd be going on week two. Warwick Davis will be attending that week, and as embarrassed as I am to admit this... we've never seen his much-heralded performance. We may try to pop in for a quick glimpse of Mark Hamill on week four, but with the expectations of capacity crowds, I'm not banking on it.

Disney's Hollywood Studios Christmas - Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights

In 1986, something very magical happened in Arkansas - a little girl made a Christmas wish. She wished that her entire house were covered in festive lights for the holiday season. Her father, Jennings Osborne, set out on a mission to make her dream come true. Beginning that very year, the Osborne family worked toward an elaborate display, and each year thereafter their finished product grew. Eventually, the Osborne family light display expanded to include millions of lights, custom statues and enormous Christmas trees. In essence, they grew to be too big for their britches and the annual tradition faced extinction. Queue Disney to the rescue!

Disney's Star Wars Weekends Sizzle

You've probably noticed that our almost-daily infusion of Disney has slowed down quite quickly as of late. There's a very simple explanation for this...

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO ORLANDO IN THE SUMMER???

I apologize for the offense I am about to deliver to so many, but you have to be completely insane to plan your Disney vacation for the summer months. I know that this is when school is on extended break. SO WHAT! Let your children miss a few days, but don't torture the whole family with heat stroke merely for the accomplishment of perfect attendance! I'm tellin' ya... it's like death being served in the slowest manner possible.

Get the point? Enough on that rant, then.

So, point is... you'll rarely see us dragging ourselves out to the parks in the thick of the summer. The hotels, maybe... but not the parks. Harsh karma be to Disney for being sinister enough to plan the annual Star Wars Weekends event for the summer months. This is one of the very few things that can have the appeal to lure us into the brutality of the Florida sun. We broke down and went to Disney Studios during the next-to-last weekend of the event, knowing we'd be regretful if we missed the whole thing.

Luckily, neither Tony nor myself had any interest in meeting any of the attending actors from the films or voice actors from the animate series. In terms of characters, there were only a few that we really had a big interest in capturing photos with. One revolving character greeting area featured Jedi Mickey, Leia Minnie, Darth Goofy and Stormtrooper Donald. Basically, you keep getting back in the line after each meet and greet and eventually you'll get the full group knocked out. We caught two of the four:

We missed Donald and Mickey, because we spent a great deal of time trying like crazy to get in queue for Chewbacca and any of the random Ewoks that joined him. At times, we'd get there and find the line capped off. Other times, it would be just an Ewok...

Finally... after FIVE attempts (even the attending Cast Member seemed happy for us)... SUCCESS!
