FLORIDA - 7th Annual Jon Jay FMSbonds Celebrity Bowling Challenge Returns January 27 Featuring Jay and Other MLB Players to Benefit Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade

to Host Event Open to the Public at Splitsville Lanes

What/Who:
Jon Jay, MLB outfielder, player on the St. Louis Cardinals World Championship team, Miami native and Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade alumnus, will host the 7th Annual Jon Jay FMSbonds Celebrity Bowling Challenge. All event proceeds will benefit Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s Project Learn After-School Program, serving Club members in grades K–8.

Along with other Major League Baseball stars and local celebrities, Jay will bowl with attendees during the fun-filled fundraising event. The evening will include red carpet arrivals, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, exciting bowling matches and more. There will be a live and silent auction and kids from Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade attending as well. Sponsorships are available.

“It’s always so rewarding when former members of the Clubs return to give back,” said Alex Rodriguez-Roig, president of Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade. “It’s especially nice when an event becomes annual like this one in its seventh year. Through the efforts of Jon and many others who support Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade, we are able to continue to make a difference in the lives of many area youths.”

For more than 36 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade has been selling Christmas trees and wreaths to help bring holiday cheer into many South Florida households. The tradition continues in 2017 with the great addition of Swire Properties Inc as this year’s tree lot sponsor and the new name of Christmas City Centre.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade is spearheading Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade Club-to-Club Florida Keys Relief to collect critical supplies to deliver to Boys and Girls Clubs of the Keys Area, Inc. that were devastated by Hurricane Irma.

The two Clubs in the Keys affected by Hurricane Irma are the Southernmost Boys and Girls Club in Key West and Big Pine Key Boys and Girls Club. Both are desperately in need of essential supplies for the children and teens who attend these clubs.

All five Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade locations are accepting items starting Monday, September 18, 2017 through Friday, October 13, 2017. The locations are as follows.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade will present its annual black-tie “Wild About Kids” Gala on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017 at the JW Marriott Marquis Miami. The theme of this year’s event is “The Great Gatsby.” Proceeds will benefit Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s many positive programs, including after school programs, homework assistance, computer training, social skills, dance, arts and crafts, professional mentoring, and summer and athletic programs, for area children who need them the most. 
 
The event will kick off with a cocktail reception, silent auction and fashion showcase of evening and formal wear courtesy of Bloomingdale’s at The Falls, followed by dinner, program, dancing and live entertainment. South Florida’s top community leaders, philanthropists and socialites will be among the guests, who will enjoy a themed-evening full of surprises, luxurious and unique auction items, and much more. Guests will also have a special opportunity at the event to sponsor a child through donations.

Miami, FL (December 2016) – Described as “Miami Beach’s Only All-Inclusive Entertainment Complex,” Copa Room features premium open bar all night long as guests enjoy nightly shows by entertainers, acrobats, cabaret dancers and choreographed performances, all accompanied by an eclectic menu of specialty cocktails. 

From the creators of Wynwood’s Prohibition Restaurant & Speakeasy, owner Shawn Shahnazi has built upon his passion for destination nightlife establishments that he has garnered experience of in the Miami nightlife realm for over 30 years. Envisioning Copa Room as an interactive experience with a Miami flair, Shahzani hopes to entice tourists and locals alike with live entertainment and seemingly endless libations. 

Copa Room offers a flat rate of $80 on weekdays and $100 on weekends (50% off for Florida residents honored with on-site ticket purchase). A higher priced Club Level ticket for $125 grants guests super-premium liquor and an add-on is offered for Table Service for$300. Open Friday to Sunday at 5:30 p.m., Copa Room allows guests to purchase tickets with an on-site concierge, as they are encouraged to stay for Happy Hour drink specials at the boutique bar in the lobby and enjoy snacks and entertainment in the form of flat screen TV’s, pool tables and arcade video games, creating anticipation for the evening ahead.

Officially opening its doors from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., arriving guests are received in the lobby by performers and a looming video-mapped mask as they are ushered into the main decorated and featuring tropical-themed decals, 3 premium open bars, a mini stage situated in the middle of the room, an expansive main theater stage across the dance floor, a chandelier with five disco balls encased in stream lights and two expansive staircases leading to the Club level private seated lounge area and a super-premium open bar. Scads of shows begin at 11pm and continue on throughout the night in 30 minute intervals. Some of the spectacles include cirque-style acts with aerial acrobats, choreographed dances, live concerts and performances by impersonators of Michael Jackson, Madonna,BeyoncéQueen, and Jennifer Lopez, amongst many others, and interactive vignettes with characters like Chewbacca and StormtroopersBeetlejuiceCharlie Chaplin, and The Mask.

Copa Room's nonrestrictive dress code will allow casual wear to elegant and everything in between. "Shorts and Tuxedo’s welcomed," notes Shahnazi. “We want to steer away from the typical Miami nightclub experience, where guests are selected based on looks and money, and provide all with a good time.” 

With a 21 and over guest capacity of 1,800, Shahnazi’s mission for Copa Room is “to provide high quality shows and entertainment and a hassle-free nightlife experience, where guests can enjoy shows performed by professional entertainers and experience a non-stop high energy nightclub and receive premium open bar all night.”

FLORIDA - Zoo Miami To Open Florida: Mission Everglades Addition On December 10 & 11, 2016

New expansion will celebrate Florida's flora and fauna as well as the conservation efforts supporting them

MIAMI, Nov. 22, 2016 - Locals and tourists alike will want to visit Zoo Miami to experience Florida: Mission Everglades and the grand opening festivities on December 10 & 11, 2016. This new, 4.5 acre, $33 million permanent addition will encourage residents, as well as out of town visitors, to connect with approximately 60 species of wildlife from our own backyard, many of which are endangered or threatened.

"We're very excited to see this project open to the public," said Zoo Miami Director Carol Kruse. "The goal of Florida: Mission Everglades is to give our visitors a deeper understanding of the importance of the Everglades and to engage them in helping us save it. We want visitors to be inspired to actually visit the Everglades."
