“Space Out” This Weekend at Orlando Science Center’s Space Exploration Weekend Event


Enjoy space-themed demos and experiments, Science on a Sphere presentations & more

WHAT:
July is Space Exploration Month, but you don’t have to leave Earth to experience the fun. Orlando Science Center is celebrating with a full weekend dedicated to all things space!

Each day there will be special programming throughout the building, which show the science and technology of space travel. Space explorers can enjoy screenings of “Journey to Space,” Science on a Sphere presentations, Mars colony building from recycled materials in The Hive, and space-themed demos and experiments around the building.

This Summer, Explore Science After Sundown at Orlando Science Center

Enjoy stargazing in the observatory, the Hall of Heroes exhibit, retro science fiction films, Laser Light Shows and four floors of hands-on fun!

ORLANDO, Fla. (June 28, 2018) — This summer, when the sun goes down, your IQ goes up as you experience science fun and discovery, plus a few added surprises, during late nights at Orlando Science Center.  On Fridays and Saturdays through August 11, the Science Center will host “Science After Sundown” with stargazing in the observatory, retro sci fi movies in the Digital Adventure Theater and all exhibits open until 11 p.m.
With OSC open late, visitors will enjoy more time for exploration, inspiration and imagination. Plus, experience the Science Center with fewer crowds than the busy daytime hours. Come later in the day and stay through the evening, or just stop by after dinner for a few hours of casual brain-bolstering.

This Fourth of July, the Science Center is combining history and science in a series of activities that bring out the best of this patriotic holiday!

Simulate Paul Revere's midnight ride in the Sphero arena, make your own quill to sign a giant Declaration of Independence, and more! Guests will still have access to all four floors of interactive exhibit halls and theaters.

Plus, see the live show “Kaboom!” to learn about the science of fireworks!

Fly Over to Orlando Science Center for Superhero Week!

KidsTown will be transformed into a superhero metropolis with Superhero Training Camp, Superhero Olympics, Live Shows & More

WHAT:
Orlando Science Center is turning beloved KidsTown into a superhero metropolis for Superhero Week! Come and learn what it takes to be an everyday superhero at home and in the community.

During this special themed event, little learners can participate in many events that allow them to discover their own superpowers and those held by community heroes. Challenge yourself in the Superhero Olympics interactive gameshow, make your own superhero accessories, enjoy story times with special guests and lots more!

Guests are strongly encouraged to come dressed as their favorite hero! You can also meet some of your favorite heroes in person on Saturday, June 16, like Batman, Green Lantern and the Flash.

Get Inspired to Reduce, Reuse & Recycle at Orlando Science Center’s Summer Art Exhibition

WHAT:
Orlando Science Center is installing a new traveling art exhibition, “RelevancEcology,” just in time for summer. Artist German Lemus has found a new way to reuse and recycle by turning plastics, cardboard, bags and paper into works of art. German has found inspiration for his art through a passion for solving ocean.
“RelevancEcology” includes pieces by Lemus and other local upcoming artists. Their work reminds guests that we can find other uses for our waste – and that’s not limited to making art! There are ways to reduce our waste by simply being creative with it. These little steps help create a better future for our planet.
“RelevancEcology” is now on view in Fusion: A STEAM Gallery at Orlando Science Center.

STEAM Summer Camp Combines Science and the Arts


Cultural institutions in Loch Haven Park are collaborating for an
interdisciplinary approach to summer camp.

WHAT:
School is out for summer – but that doesn’t mean the learning has to end! Join Orlando Science Center, Orlando Museum of Art and Orlando Shakespeare Theater for a full week of STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.

This program allows campers in grades 3 to 5 to discover the unique intersections of science, theater, and visual arts as they learn about history, storytelling, dance, artworks and ecosystems. They will spend a full day at each of the participating organizations.

New Summer Exhibit “Hall of Heroes” Coming Soon to Orlando Science Center


Immerse yourself in the world of heroes, crime-fighters and gadgets in this super summer exhibit!

ORLANDO, Fla. (May 15, 2018) — Unmask your superpowers! You’ll find yourself in the midst of the action in with several different themed environments and surprises around every corner in Hall of Heroes, Orlando Science Center’s summer 2018 exhibit. Visitors of all ages will love the combination of science and science fiction as they discover their own super strengths.

Learn about superheroes’ origins, discover the ideals that heroes uphold, and push boundaries to see what it truly means to be heroic! Starting your journey in the “Identification Station,” you will learn about and get sorted into one of the five disciplines that are the basis for all superpowers: “Powers of the Body,” “Powers of the Mind,” “Mastery,” “Gadgets,” and “The Elements.”

Artistic Tribute to Pulse Victims & Survivors Now Permanently Installed at Orlando Science Center


Orlando artist Christy McCutchen was commissioned to design and build the piece.

ORLANDO, Fla. (May 10, 2018) — Orlando Science Center has unveiled a mixed media art installation that local artist Christy McCutchen custom-created as a tribute to victims and survivors of the Pulse nightclub tragedy. The piece will remain on display permanently at the Science Center, along with other pieces in the newly renovated Fusion: A STEAM Gallery exhibit area.
Background Information
After the 2016 tragedy, Orlando Science Center invited members of the community to write messages of love and fold their notes into origami hearts. The rainbow-colored hearts were hung on OSC’s bridge entrance in 49 rows with 49 hearts per row.

Spring Break Camps Next Week at Orlando Science Center


Give your children a productive and fun way to spend their days off school

WHAT:
When school’s out, break camps are in at Orlando Science Center!

Full-day school break camps are offered for elementary students when Orange County Public Schools or Seminole County Public Schools are out of session.

This spring break, camp topics are The Earth & I (Preschool), Who Loves Robots? WEDO! (Grades K-2) and Mindbender Mansion (Grades 3-5). Campers will participate in hands-on science activities and explore the Science Center’s exhibits.

solve the case of the missing fossil!

WHAT:
A fossil has been stolen from DinoDigs at Orlando Science Center! We have eyewitness descriptions and clues left at the scene. Make your detective badge, review the evidence, and head on over to Dr. Dare’s Detective Lab to solve the case!

You’ll get to analyze the evidence with real-world forensic technology and techniques, like chromatography, soil analysis, and fingerprinting!

Plus, after you figure out who stole the fossil, participate in a building-wide puzzle using a cipher that will help you determine the secret password to unlock a hidden page on our website. Fun surprises await!

Animal Inspired isn't just another animal show. It focuses on connections between animal adaptations and real-life technology used by scientists and engineers today. It's an educational show to inspire you, peppered with elements of quirky humor to keep you entertained at the same time.

Plus, the stars of the show are Animal Ambassadors from NatureWorks, OSC's exhibit focused on ecology and zoology. These live animals show off their adaptations right before you on stage. Don't worry if you couldn't snag a front-row seat — the use of a GoPro camera allows every audience member an up-close view of the animals.

You'll learn about chameleons' thermochromatic skin, parrots' strong beaks, snakes' heat-sensing vision and more!

Seating in the theater is first come, first served.
