SEMINOLE STATE COLLEGE PLANS ‘BIGGER AND BETTER’ SPACE WEEK EVENTS FOR 2018

Weeklong space celebration culminates in Winter Sky Festival on Jan. 27, with 4,000 expected attendees.
 
SANFORD, Fla. (Jan. 18, 2018) – Seminole State College of Florida, home to the Emil Buehler Perpetual Trust Planetarium, will showcase the planetarium’s capabilities and the far-reaching impacts of space exploration during Space Week 2018. The weeklong celebration, which begins Jan. 19, is sponsored by CFE Federal Credit Union and culminates in the Winter Sky Festival, the largest astronomy-themed event held annually in Florida. With the exception of the laser shows, all events are free and open to the public.
 
“‘Space Week is about connecting our community to the cosmos,” said Michael McConville, coordinator of the Buehler Planetarium at Seminole State. “This year’s Space Week is bigger and better than ever, with a focus on engaging events that can inspire our visitors, regardless of their age or background. Astronomy really is for everyone, and we want to do our part to facilitate that fact as much as possible.”

Central Florida’s Largest, Free Great American Eclipse Observation Event

#SolarEclipse2017 Observing Event
The Great American Eclipse of 2017 will be the first total solar eclipse visible in the contiguous United States since 1979. Although the Orlando area is not in the line of totality, nearly 90 percent of the sun's surface will be obscured by the moon. For those who are not able to travel to areas of the country where the total eclipse is visible, this event will be the best chance to safely view the partial eclipse in all of Central Florida!

Seminole Towne Center Offers KidX Club Socials on First Tuesday of Every Month Encouraging Children to Explore, Experience & Excel

Next KidX Club Social Scheduled for April 4 at 5:30 p.m.

WHAT:             Seminole Towne Center, serving northern Seminole and western Volusia Counties, invites children and families to participate in its complimentary KidX Club Socials, held the first Tuesday of every month.

                        Kids will have the opportunity to meet and greet with tenants while participating in a fun, interactive program. Previous activities have included Make Your Own Sundae, Make Your Own Nachos, Milk and Cookies with Santa and more.

                        Seminole Towne Center’s KidX Club is a free program for children ages 2-12 featuring activities that invite them to explore their world. The purpose of these events is for members to have fun, playful and educational experiences. Whether it’s expression through art, safety or fitness activities, the KidX Club brings enriching events to members and their families that inspire them to explore, experience and excel.

SEMINOLE TOWNE CENTER WILL HOP INTO SPRING WITH THE ARRIVAL OF THE EASTER BUNNY ON SATURDAY, MARCH 25

SANFORD, Fla. (March 10, 2017) – Seminole Towne Center, serving northern Seminole and western Volusia Counties, will hop into spring with the arrival of the Easter Bunny on Saturday, March 25. Families are invited to enjoy Seminole Towne Center’s annual lineup of traditional and unique seasonal celebrations including the Easter Bunny Photo Experience including KidX Club’s Breakfast with the Bunny and an Easter egg hunt plus Sensitive Bunny through Saturday, April 15.

In anticipation of the Easter Bunny’s arrival, little ones are invited to visit Bunnyville, a virtual Easter Bunny Village, where they can enjoy interactive games, write a letter to the bunny, create art, learn about recycling and more.

SEMINOLE TOWNE CENTER TO HOST SUMMER CAMP AND ADVENTURE EXPO PRESENTED BY ORLANDO SENTINEL ON MARCH 4

SANFORD, Fla. (February 27, 2017) Seminole Towne Center, serving northern Seminole and western Volusia Counties, will host the Summer Camp and Adventure Expo presented by the Orlando Sentinel on Saturday, March 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kids of all ages and their families will have the opportunity to plan summer outings and explore a free showcase of unique destinations and experiences all under one roof.

CIRQUE ITALIA AIMS TO AMAZE AND EXCITE WITH NEW AQUATIC-THEMED SHOW AT SEMINOLE TOWNE CENTER FROM MARCH 2 – 5

SANFORD, Fla. (February 27, 2017) - Non vediamo l'ora di vedervi allo spettacolo! Let your imagination wander...and dive into the magical world of Cirque Italia!  The innovative Las Vegas-style traveling circus that combines acrobatics, dance, contortion and even high-performance BMX and roller-skating, will bring its newest aquatic-themed production to Seminole Towne Center from March 2 – 5. Performance times will vary.

Performers from all over the world possessing an extraordinary repertoire of skills will be united under the magic spiral of the blue and white big top. Spectators of all ages will marvel at this water circus that offers two hours of high-end entertainment. Mermaids and dinosaurs make dreamy appearances amidst lasers, colorful bubbles and more. Nimble aerialists, acrobats, and contortionists take the human body to the next level – one you never thought possible!
A unique show in every sense, Cirque Italia employs a rigorous casting selection and has managed to find a delicate balance between the poetic and expressive power of the human body and the versatility and fluidity of water as an artistic scenario. With over 1,000 performances nationwide, this spectacular production has become the greatest version of a “traveling circus” earning it a well-deserved reputation as one of the most technically creative shows to be staged in the U.S.  
Conceived by Manuel Rebecchi, and meticulously directed and produced by Chanté DeMoustes, Cirque Italia is a visually stunning mix of the best elements of entertainment and technology. All performances are executed in ways that push the physical boundaries of human abilities, leaving audiences amazed and astonished.

SEMINOLE STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA LAUNCHES 2017 WITH A FLURRY OF SPACE WEEK ACTIVITIES

SANFORD, Fla. (December 13, 2016) – Seminole State College of Florida, home to the Emil Buehler Perpetual Trust Planetarium, will showcase the planetarium’s capabilities and the far-reaching impacts of space exploration to the local community through several planned “Space Week 2017” events. The week-long celebration culminates in the Winter Sky Festival, the largest astronomy-themed event held annually in Florida. With the exception of the laser shows, all events are free and open to the public. The planetarium has also programmed a trio of children’s matinees for kids of all ages.

Details of each of those events are included below.
  • Friday, January 6 and Saturday, January 7 – Always popular laser shows will return to the Buehler Planetarium the first weekend of 2017. Guests can expect an octet of fantastic laser displays cutting across genres and decades. There will be four laser shows each evening, at 7:00, 8:00, 9:00, and 10:00 p.m. The cost to attend is $10 for adults, $8 for students and adults 55+, and $5 for Seminole State College students/staff/faculty with ID.
  • Monday, January 9 – Students and the public are welcome to visit the Sanford/Lake Mary campus for Solar Observing between the A and UP buildings from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Planetarium representatives will set up three telescopes for solar viewing between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and will be holding several giveaways for free laser show tickets.   •  Tuesday, January 10 – The Space Times Media Roundtable will feature prominent local space journalists who will participate in a moderated panel discussion and provide perspective on the past, present, and future of the Space Coast and NASA. This event, free and open to the public, will occur from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Fine Arts Concert Hall (Building G on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus). It will also be livestreamed online. Stay up to date using #SpaceTimes on social. Children’s matinee for kids of all ages: the planetarium is presenting a double feature at 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.: Legends of the Night Sky: Orion, one of the most well-received children's laser shows ever produced, along with a guided tour of the solar system utilizing the planetarium's immensely powerful full dome video system. This event is intended for ages 8 and under. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 3 and up. Capacity is limited to 50 seats per show, and advance registration at Eventbrite is required.   • Wednesday, January 11 – As part of the Stellar Speaker Series of science lectures, this program will feature Dr. Humberto Campins, the Provost Research Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Central Florida. He will be presenting a talk titled: "NASA’s OSIRIS-REx and Asteroid Redirect Missions to Near-Earth Asteroids." This is scheduled to take place from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Fine Arts Concert Hall (Building G on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus). Stay up to date using #SpaceTimes on social.   • Thursday, January 12 – Join featured presenters from the Buehler Planetarium for Telescope Thursdays at The Abbey & Nerd Nite Orlando XLVII. Hosted from 7:00 - 9:30 p.m. at The Abbey in downtown Orlando, this special event combines a regularly scheduled Telescope Thursday with Nerd Nite Orlando. Children’s matinee registration for January 12 is here:
  • Friday, January 13 and Saturday, January 14 – Seminole State College proudly presents another weekend of laser light shows at the Buehler Planetarium. There will be four shows on Friday evening (7:00, 8:00, 9:00, and 10:00 p.m.) and five shows on Saturday evening, during the Winter Sky Festival (5:30, 6:30, 7:30, 9:00, and 10:00 p.m.). Prices are $10 for adults, $8 for students and adults 55+, and $5 for Seminole State College students/staff/faculty with ID.
  •  Saturday, January 14 – The week-long celebration culminates in the Winter Sky Festival, the largest astronomy-themed event in Florida. With an expected attendance of at least 3,500, this includes talks and demonstrations, two dozen telescopes, laser shows, and food trucks. The event will occur from 5:00 – 11:00 p.m.; follow #WSF on social media.
