A Tour of Florida From the 2018 Florida Governor's Conference on Tourism

Perhaps this won't qualify as our meatiest post ever, but it stands solid as a worthy snippet to use as a sort of announcement and "teaser" if you will.

Last week, we attended the 2018 Florida Governor's Conference on Tourism at the Omni Resort. Although we were only able to make it for one day of the three-day event, there was a remarkable amount of knowledge and connection to be made in that brief visit!

The Florida Governor's Conference on Tourism featured a fantastic array of speakers and educational tracks of great value to members of the hospitality and tourism industry - most notably, in marketing and customer outreach. We explored the changing profile of today's Florida traveler, the incoming generation of travelers, evolving trends, emerging businesses, and much more. Perhaps most importantly, we explored our beautiful state from a centralized gathering of like-minded people who all have a vested interest in continuing to perfect our travel game overall.

This was our first time attending the Governor's Conference, and we were so impressed and inspired by the knowledge we gained at the event that we decided to share some fun with you! For quite a while now, we've been expanding our reach to report news from other popular destinations, and lesser-known spots as well. From time to time, we even venture out for firsthand feature reports from locations "Beyond Orlando" (as we call this segment of coverage). Thanks to some handy new info we gathered at the Governor's Conference, we've selected a few of the locations that really caught our attention, and we're going to explore them a bit more. While this little mini-project is still in the planning stages, we do want to share the list of locations with you now.

DRUM ROLL, PLEASE..........

Stay tuned for more details on our developing "Tour of Florida" - which could certainly grow to include other locations in the future. If you happen to be located in or near one of our current featured spots, we would love to talk to you as an expert consultant as well. Email dawn@comeseeorlando.com with your location in the subject line, and let's chat today!

FLORIDA - The Vault of Souls 2017…The Year of the RELEASE

What is The Vault of Souls?

The Vault of Souls is an interactive theatrical performance throughout three areas. It is offered every Friday and Saturday night in October in The Vault of the Franklin Exchange building in downtown Tampa. In addition to the paranormal basement “Release Room” experience, The Vault of Souls features two nightclub lounges ranging from modern elegance in The Vault and a subdued spiritualist cocktail lounge on the third floor.

The Vault of Souls is an unsettling, interactive play in a richly themed environment. Our spirits will not use blood or gore to create fear in our guests.

What can I expect?

Reservations are from 7:30p-11:00p, and The Arrival and Spirit Bar remain open until 2a. A reservation includes complimentary valet parking and three interactive theatrical experiences:

The Arrival: an eerily elegant cocktail lounge in The Vault, featuring live atmospheric entertainment.

The Release Rooms: A guided and  timed paranormal performance in the basement of the Franklin Exchange Building with other lost souls. Guests work together to “release” a chosen soul.

The Spirit Bar: A mystical clearing where souls interact with guests, on the 3 rd floor of the Franklin Exchange building.

Cash bars are available in The Arrival and Spirit Bar. A reservation includes unlimited entry into the performances on both levels, and a group experience in one of the Release Rooms. Additional Release Room experiences may be purchased for an additional $25, upon availability.

How do I buy a ticket to The Vault of Souls?

Space is limited and advance reservations of $50 “deposit” per person are required. Reservations for The Vault of Souls will be available on elegantfear.com

Roar into Summer in Tampa Bay!

Now’s the time to plan your conquest of Florida's most diverse destination

For family fun, a couple’s escape or a weekend with friends, Tampa Bay’s got plenty of options

Get up close with dinos & rhinos
Got one of those kids who can't read yet but knows a Dilophosaurus from a Diplodocus? Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo has the perfect experience for you. "Dinos Alive!" creates a garden of earthly frights -- terrible lizards of all shapes and sizes. They're animated and scientifically accurate (look for the feathers), making this trip back in time as close to the real thing as you can get without breeding them yourself from 100 million-year-old DNA found in preserved mosquitos. Hmm. Where have I heard that before? While you're at it, drop in on the zoo's extensive collection of living animals -- including a rhino you can feed by hand and giraffes you can meet eye-to-eye.

For more Cretaceous creatures, visit Dinosaur World just off Interstate 4 east of downtown.

The Vault of Souls Returns to Tampa

By: Gino Sabato

Around the end of September and the beginning of October the normally family friendly, zip-a-dee-doo-dah atmosphere in Central Florida takes on a much darker and eerie persona. It’s Halloween season, and there is no shortage of haunted houses and things that go bump in the night. I am not a huge fan of the standard haunted attractions with ghouls and monsters lurking around every corner. It’s just not scary when you know exactly what to expect. There are a few exceptions and Vault of Souls is certainly at the top of the list.

"The Room" Screening and Interview With Greg Sestero

Photos and article: Steph Lauren Bramson

At the age of twenty-four, Greg Sestero had no idea that the film he was making was destined to be a hit. In fact, all but one of the team behind The Room expected that no one would ever see it. Only Tommy Wiseau, the film’s writer, director, executive producer, and lead actor, expected it to be a success. And in many ways, it has been, albeit not in the way that Wiseau intended.

Busch Gardens - From the Perspective of a Disney Snob

I've been to various theme/amusement parks over the years - many that were not part of the Disney family. By coincidence, I was on a Disney spree when I hit the stage where I began to actually appreciate the parks. Let's face it... it can't be denied that Disney has set the standard. I find myself ending many descriptions of other parks with "... but it's not Disney". If we're being truly honest here however, even Disney hasn't been up to the Disney standard in a while. I've recently found myself starting to appreciate the benefits of other parks as well, and viewing their total packages with a much more open mind. Case in point - Busch Gardens. Frankly, this park has a few specific advantages over Disney. Coming from me, that's one heck of a statement!
