REVIEW: UNDead in the Water Returns For 2019!

Once again, UNDead in the Water is ready to serve as Tampa’s "only authentic nautical haunted attraction" for another fright-filled horror season. This clever haunt takes place aboard the historic American Victory WWII cargo ship, and you will be tasked with navigating multiple levels of the ship as you avoid the undead legion you'll find inside, outside, and all-around with only a blacklight flashlight to defend yourself. Lucky for you, the zombies hate blacklights, so those brief moments of "stun" they receive when you light 'em up may just be the thing to save you in the end. Members of the Ripper Squad (an elite zombie eradication team) are on-hand to help usher survivors from the apocalypse to remote islands that offer safe harbor, but there may be a snag or two in the plans now that zombies are on-board... and that captain isn't looking so well now either, is he?

REVIEW: Scream-A-Geddon Is Back For 2019!

I've been going to haunted houses since long before most people would feel it to be appropriate. I was only in first or maybe second grade when I recall running from a very bad Leatherface knock-off at a cheesy community haunted house, and running straight out of the tent, not stopping until I hit the parking lot. When my mom caught up with me, I begged to do it again. I've never been okay with chainsaws since then, but I have always loved a good scare. My standards and expectations have raised quite a bit since my childhood, but thankfully - so has the quality of the typical haunt (at least in Central Florida)!

I love Scream-A-Geddon because it has the vibe of a traditional, old school haunted house, combined with the quality and imagination we expect from a modern-day horror attraction. It doesn't rely on trademarked brands or gimmicks. There are not hours of lines to wait in. AND... you don't have to pay an arm and a leg to get in... though you may run into some folks who will request these things from you anyway. Muahaha!

More Zombies…Tampa’s Nautical Halloween Event Is Back!

UNDead in the Water is Tampa’s only authentic nautical haunted attraction. Traverse multiple decks of this historic WWII cargo ship armed only with a blacklight flashlight. Avoid being eaten by the infected zombie stowaways as the merciless Ripper Squad do what they were trained to do, SEARCH AND DESTROY! The attraction opens October 4th and runs through November 2nd on Friday and Saturday nights, plus Halloween.

Tour of Florida - Discover Tampa Bay

Our recent attendance at the 2018 Florida Governor's Conference on Tourism was inspiring, to say the very least. Based on the information we gathered at the event, we have selected a few highlighted locations to spotlight on a virtual "tour" of Florida. These articles will be released in a series - each featuring a different location. For more information on the destinations we're featuring, please click here. For now, please enjoy our previous features on Amelia IslandBradenton/Gulf Islands, HistoricCoast, and Treasure Coast. Please note - information contained in this feature is not based on firsthand experience, but from promotional materials put out by representatives of the featured location at the 2018 Governor's Conference.

Tampa Bay is experiencing a hotel boom. Two luxury properties -- the five-star, 173-room Tampa EDITION (opening in 2021) and 4-star, 519-room JW Marriott Hotel & Resort (opening in 2020) – are on track for downtown. In 2019, a co-branded Home2Suites and Hampton Inn will grace the Channel District, a few minutes from Port Tampa Bay’s cruise terminals. In trendy West Shore, the Current, a new Marriott Autograph hotel, adds to the area’s waterfront luxury. New in 2018, AC Hotel by Marriott opened in the heart of the West Shore District, and the Godfrey Hotel & Cabanas offers waterfront boutique features minutes from the airport.

New in 2018, food halls bring a dynamic vibe to historic Tampa Heights. Sample mouth-watering fare at Hall on Franklin or at Heights Public Market located inside the fully restored Armature Works, both iconic buildings reborn as stylish, modern venues.  In Seminole Heights, Chef Farrell Alvarez brings his exciting culinary vision to new in 2018 Nebraska Mini-Mart, a funky hangout with great food and shuffleboard. Waterfront dining grows with new in 2018 seafood-focused Blue Harbour. Our favorite eateries imbue their menus with local flavor are La Segunda Central Bakery, Oxford Exchange, and the Columbia, Florida’s oldest restaurant.

REVIEW: UNDead in the Water - Tampa Bay

Thanks to the resurgence in mainstream popularity of zombie culture, the apocalypse is a topic we're able to ponder from a sort of "fantasy" slant. After all, the rise of the undead for a human harvest couldn't really become a realistic event... right?

But, what if...

Work with me here. Even if you haven't considered your survival plan in the case of a zombie apocalypse, haven't we all had a moment to wonder where we would go and what we would do if an apocalyptic event were to unfold? Let's face it - we Floridians have emergency plans embedded in our brains thanks to hurricanes anyway, so maybe it's not a huge leap to throw the potential for flesh-eating monsters into the mix - just in case. (Right about now, you are raising an eyebrow at me, but let me profess - I actually took a course through UC Irvine: 'Survival Lessons From The Walking Dead'... it's a thing, people! But I digress...)

It just so happens - in the case of a zombie apocalypse, those lucky folks near Tampa's Channelside District have a pretty nifty escape option... the American Victory Ship!

September 26, 2018

Tampa, FL (September 20, 2018)   The American Victory Ship has hosted numerous Halloween events for nearly ten years. A Tour of Florida From the 2018 Florida Governor's Conference on Tourism

Perhaps this won't qualify as our meatiest post ever, but it stands solid as a worthy snippet to use as a sort of announcement and "teaser" if you will.

Last week, we attended the 2018 Florida Governor's Conference on Tourism at the Omni Resort. Although we were only able to make it for one day of the three-day event, there was a remarkable amount of knowledge and connection to be made in that brief visit!

The Florida Governor's Conference on Tourism featured a fantastic array of speakers and educational tracks of great value to members of the hospitality and tourism industry - most notably, in marketing and customer outreach. We explored the changing profile of today's Florida traveler, the incoming generation of travelers, evolving trends, emerging businesses, and much more. Perhaps most importantly, we explored our beautiful state from a centralized gathering of like-minded people who all have a vested interest in continuing to perfect our travel game overall.

This was our first time attending the Governor's Conference, and we were so impressed and inspired by the knowledge we gained at the event that we decided to share some fun with you! For quite a while now, we've been expanding our reach to report news from other popular destinations, and lesser-known spots as well. From time to time, we even venture out for firsthand feature reports from locations "Beyond Orlando" (as we call this segment of coverage). Thanks to some handy new info we gathered at the Governor's Conference, we've selected a few of the locations that really caught our attention, and we're going to explore them a bit more. While this little mini-project is still in the planning stages, we do want to share the list of locations with you now.

Stay tuned for more details on our developing "Tour of Florida" - which could certainly grow to include other locations in the future. If you happen to be located in or near one of our current featured spots, we would love to talk to you as an expert consultant as well. Email with your location in the subject line, and let's chat today!

Roar into Summer in Tampa Bay!

Now’s the time to plan your conquest of Florida's most diverse destination

For family fun, a couple’s escape or a weekend with friends, Tampa Bay’s got plenty of options

Get up close with dinos & rhinos
Got one of those kids who can't read yet but knows a Dilophosaurus from a Diplodocus? Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo has the perfect experience for you. "Dinos Alive!" creates a garden of earthly frights -- terrible lizards of all shapes and sizes. They're animated and scientifically accurate (look for the feathers), making this trip back in time as close to the real thing as you can get without breeding them yourself from 100 million-year-old DNA found in preserved mosquitos. Hmm. Where have I heard that before? While you're at it, drop in on the zoo's extensive collection of living animals -- including a rhino you can feed by hand and giraffes you can meet eye-to-eye.

For more Cretaceous creatures, visit Dinosaur World just off Interstate 4 east of downtown.

The Vault of Souls Returns to Tampa

By: Gino Sabato

Around the end of September and the beginning of October the normally family friendly, zip-a-dee-doo-dah atmosphere in Central Florida takes on a much darker and eerie persona. It’s Halloween season, and there is no shortage of haunted houses and things that go bump in the night. I am not a huge fan of the standard haunted attractions with ghouls and monsters lurking around every corner. It’s just not scary when you know exactly what to expect. There are a few exceptions and Vault of Souls is certainly at the top of the list.
