Calling All Bartenders:  Now Accepting Entries Through August 2, 2019

Orlando, FL, July 24, 2019 - Rum is often a misunderstood spirit, but this versatile alcoholic beverage has such a vast history and will be featured at this September's Hip Sip: Battle of the Modern Bartender Competition taking place at the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Show in Orlando.  Chosen finalists will battle in this fun and exciting competition on Center Stage for the chance to win $1,000, bragging rights, an article in the October 2019 issue of Bar Business Magazine. Ryan Wolfe and Evan Sewell Create Best Tequila Cocktails in Town

Nine of Orlando’s Finest Bartenders put their Mixing Skills to the Test in the Regional Phase of the Bartender Legends

October 3rd, 2017, Louisville, KY— Last night, regional bartenders competed in the 2017 Bartender Legends, sponsored by Tequila Herradura, where Ryan Wolfe and Evan Sewell’s original tequila cocktail recipes were named the best in Orlando. In addition to creating their own version of the original Horseshoe Margarita, participating bartenders were tasked with creating and presenting a twist on a classic cocktail made with Tequila Herradura. Bartender Legends, a national cocktail competition conducted by and the United States Bartenders’ Guild (USBG), allows bartenders across the country a chance to showcase their creativity and expertise through uniquely-crafted tequila cocktails. Last night’s event showcased ten regional semi-finalists from the area.

After beating out their competitors at the regional level, Wolfe and Sewell will move on to the next round of the competition, where they will compete with winning bartenders from the thirteen other participating markets. As finalists, Wolfe and Sewell will be given an all-expense paid trip to historic Casa Herradura, the last true tequila-producing hacienda on the planet, where they will compete in the national finale. Using the finest ingredients, including local fruit variants sourced directly from the grounds of the Casa, finalists will have the opportunity to create a truly original Tequila Herradura-inspired cocktail for the chance to win it all. During the trip, bartenders will also experience a VIP distillery tour, receive brand education and training, as well as explore popular and historic Mexico attractions.

“Getting to be a part of this event and seeing Herradura give back to the bartending community was really cool,” Wolfe said. “We got to test our limits as bartenders. Seeing everybody come with their top game and having the opportunity to do this was inspiring but getting to go to Mexico is the cherry on top of everything!"

“All of my inspiration came from working in a restaurant in Florida for a while, getting to see what people enjoy and really just making things off the cuff which is my favorite thing to do,” Sewell said. “The competition was a lot of fun and I’m really excited to go to Mexico!”

Crafted Cocktail by Ryan Wolfe
2 parts Herradura Reposado
3/4 part Almond and Date Agave*
1 part Fresh Florida Lime Juice
1 Blackberry Tequila Salt Air*

*Black Berry Tequila Salt Air:
1oz Herradura Blanco
1oz Lime Juice
2oz Black Berry Purée (organic)
6oz Water
2tsp Kosher Salt
2tsp Sucrose Esters

*Almond Date Agave:
2cups Agave Syrup
8 Dates (deseeded)
.5cup Salted Marcona Almonds

Blend all ingredients and strain through a mesh strainer.

Crafted Cocktail by Evan Sewell
1.5 parts Herradura Silver
3/4 part Homemade Dragon Fruit Lime Zest Simple Syrup
3/4 part Lime Juice
1/2 part Fine Sherry
¼ part Illegal Joven Mezcal

Before using the Herradura I have infused it with a Pablano pepper overnight and strained it off. I build all the ingredients in a shaker and double strain into a coupe over the chipped ice sphere.
